At Home in My Soul
By Nita Gilger
It was so very peaceful, reassuring, and guiding. My dream last night was beautiful. I was walking through some lush woods with the sense that I was heading home. Accompanying me was a unique pair. It was a friendly wolf and a loveable bear. As I navigated the trail, these beautiful animals followed me in a very non-threatening way. In fact, it was comforting and fun.
The setting of my dream seemed somewhat like walking from the beach at Big Sur in California into the redwood forests, neither of which are near my home. Even so, it felt like I knew right where I was and would soon arrive home.
Of course, I had to investigate and let my heart and mind marinate on these images for a while. I love dream interpretation. Here is what I came up with at the onset of deciphering meaning from the gift of this dreamtime travel.
Dreaming of a friendly wolf and brown bear can signify a sense of protection, deep inner strength, and untapped personal power. Instead of being a threat, the presence of these wild but peaceful animals could indicate that previously feared instincts and/or challenging parts of my waking life are now working in my favor. Because these amazing animals were following me so gently rather than attacking, the dream may reflect a subconscious acceptance of my own raw, natural emotion and strengths. There is encouragement to move forward confidently in my life with the assurance I am being guided and protected.
When I awoke, I felt almost giddy. I was filled with peace and joy. I felt the home that I was arriving at was my own soul. A congruence and assurance were bubbling-up in me as my waking moments came. I was gifted with an inner strength and loyal companionship provided by Spirit which filled me to the brim. This feeling of emotional harmony infused me with a gentle confidence and integrated wisdom which I know helps me navigate life's challenges.
Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
In Native American traditions, encountering a friendly bear in a dream suggests you have developed a healthy relationship with your own strength and power. Friendly bear dreams often appear after periods of personal growth which create a genuine inner calm. Such dreams are thought to be powerful spiritual medicine and wisdom.
Prayer: I give thanks that I am never alone. You are always with me O Lord, companioning me on my way whether in the form of a friendly wolf and bear, a word from scripture, or in a cool dream that fills me with a homecoming to my very soul. Thank you. Amen.
