Building Ecological Civilizations
the practical side
Ecological civilizations are inspired the idea of living
with respect and care for the community of life.
They consist of communities that are creative,
compassionate, participatory, diverse, inclusive,
and ecologically wise - with no one left behind.
Part of arriving at such civilizations is theoretical. We
need to rethink the world as a communion of subjects
not a collection of objects, as a republic of stories
not a mere aggregation of manipulable data.
See John Cobb's Five Foundations for a New Civilization
and Ten Ideas for Saving the Planet.
But the theoretical side is empty without practical action,
and the theory can well emerge out of the practice itself.
This page offers video examples of local actions
aimed at helping build ecological civilizations.
