"Earthism is a paradigm of relationship to nature, and is compatible with both theistic and atheistic worldviews. It recognizes our planet as the result of an ongoing natural creative process. People participate in this process by using the resourcefulness and ingenuity that we inherit from nature, as evolution itself is a creative process.
The environmental ravages of the modern age make a shift in our thinking inevitable, because life seeks to survive, and will adapt as necessary. A healthy transition is already underway, galvanized by the re-purposing of our current infrastructure, and energized with a positive psychology that inspires innovation from the next generation. Earthism has a universal aspect (everyone needs the planet), and a personal aspect (each of us has a responsibility to the earth). Life is a learning experience, and along the way we should protect and preserve the processes that make life possible. It's really just that simple." |
