They're cutting down trees.

A Skate Away Prayer

​Dear Jesus,

It’s coming on Christmas and they’re cutting down trees, putting up reindeer and singing songs of joy and peace. The Christians are having their annual celebration, and I do indeed believe in joy and peace. But I feel like an outsider to a party, because I don't share their beliefs about you.  I'm Jewish after all.  We don't believe any human being should be equated with God. Our Muslim friends feel the same way. Something tells me you don't share their beliefs about you, either.  After all, you're Jewish, too. When the Christian merriment gets too triumphalistic, as if Christianity is the only way, I need a river to skate away on.  Do you understand my need to avoid the merriment?  Would you like to skate away, too?
